Hi!! Hello!! It's been a while! Happy summer!! I have had just the BUSIEST few months of my life, and things are just now starting to slow down a bit (and are sure to pick up again soon)! I've missed this!!!! AND I've got some major updates! Let's catch up, shall we? :)
WRAPPING UP VITERBO:
if you've been keeping up-to-date with these blog posts i'm sure you've noticed the graduation countdown number slowly but surely get smaller, and smaller... and I am so happy to announce that I finally graduated and received my Bachelors of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre with Honors!!! If I take the time to reflect back on my younger self, I can confidently say that the power and the magic of theatre has significantly changed my life for the better. I used to be a middle-schooler who had absolutely no care for school, with no will or drive to pass my any of my classes, and had a deep distrust in myself and my ability to be a good student. But all of that changed when I started pursuing theatre. I suddenly was opened up to a whole new world where I could tell stories and excite and move audiences. It was a feeling I could only describe as how it feels to watch the sun rise in the morning. Bright and happy again, I felt like I was able to start a new, turn a new leaf and have purpose. It was and still is, pure magic. I decided to stick with this feeling and hold it tight until the sun rises no more! And boy am I grateful and excited to see what the future holds! Enough of my sappiness, now to give you a recap!
In the last few months of school, I wrapped up Godspell (see clips and pictures on the gallery section of my website!), did a student directing project where my friends (shoutout kalyn, lauren, and kjersten) and I got to play the March sisters (I got to play a dream role of mine: Jo March!) directed by another wonderful friend marie peterson. I also performed in our in-person senior showcase and sang my original prescreen song, "Times Like This" from the musical 'Lucky Stiff', and visited some of my favorite local spots for the last time for the foreseeable future. I am so thankful for the things I learned, the people I met, and the experiences I had at school, and I wouldn't trade them for the world! (even IF I am in crippling student debt).
Here's some of my fav pictures from the last few months of school:
WHAT'S NEXT?
Soooooo now that I've graduated, what's next?? Well... there's plans in the works to hopefully move to a big city VERY soon, but for right now, I am back in my home state of Texas for the summer! I am keeping busy and occupying most of my time with work and saving money to move, but I have also have had the chance to hang out with some of my dear friends from home, watch my new hyperfixation show "The Bear" on Hulu, and enjoy soaking up summer as much as I can! I plan on continuing to write some more original music, and hopefully get some of those posted to my website soon!
For the meantime, here's some pictures from my summer so far:
However, one of my favorite parts of summer is how often I get to read >:). My goodreads goal is to read 20 books this year, and with how busy that I was during the school year, I didn't have anytime to catch up on that goal... so i've been reading like an absolute mad woman since I got home. Which brings me to the next thing to talk about with you....
REVIEWS + RECS:
my song of the week is "Love My Way" by the Psychedelic Furs! My dear friend Alexa and I have claimed this summer to be our "80's synth summer" and this song has been one of the many songs on the top of our playlist. Find me on spotify to listen to all of my fun summer playlists @laurencanfield :)
All that talk about books earlier has me itching to give you a new book recommendation!!! As I mentioned earlier, I am reading a lot this summer and trying to expand my horizons (if you all have any recommendations, please let me know!!). However very much within my comfort zone, and coincidentally the last book I finished, I highly recommend "Just For The Summer" by Abby Jimenez. I fear the book-tok girlies were spot on with this one. Truly a PERFECT summer read!! Abby Jimenez writes characters that feel so alive, and exactly like people you know in your own life. It's invigorating to be drawn into her novels and feel like your a fly on the wall of her incredibly well written characters and story. Yes it is a romance, but it is FAR from a cheesy one. This book handles real-life struggles in such a tasteful way. Emma and Justin are both dealing with things that in a way are relatable but also so incredibly unique and difficult in their own manners. It describes the experience of mental health struggles so well, and give perspective and light on things that often go unnoticed. 5/5 stars without a doubt!!!
UNTIL NEXT TIME!
this is so much fun for me, thanks for stopping by and reading about what i've been up to! as for countdowns nothing to come yet, BUT i'm hoping we can start a new one soon. For now, I cannot WAIT to update you guys next time!
much love,
lauren <3
